Not the way I wanted to start this post, but that's exactly what happened. We had amazing plans to take our new rig (new to us) out for our first overnight trip. Everything was packed and loaded by 4:30 PM on Friday. Now all we needed to do was back her out of the driveway and start our weekend adventure. But then, our luck took a turn for the worse. Betty Beastie just wouldn't start.
So here we are, feeling the anxiety levels rise as we try to troubleshoot the issues. As newbies, we're completely clueless. The motor refuses to turn, and there are some strange clicking noises that we can't decipher with our non-expert ears. We're hoping it's just the batteries, so we spent a good hour googling and watching YouTube videos in search of answers. Unfortunately, that didn't lead us anywhere.
Feeling a bit defeated, we decided to seek more experienced help and called Triple A around 6:30 PM. Thankfully, Julian arrived within an hour and tested all six batteries in our rig. To our relief, they were all in good shape! However, jumping them didn't do anything to get our Betty Beastie started.
Resigned to the fact that our first night of the trip is a bust, we made a call to a Mobile RV repair service. Tomorrow, we're hoping to have someone come over and take a look at her, with the faint hope that we might salvage the second night of our adventure (fingers crossed).
Whatever happens in the morning, we're keeping our spirits high and remaining optimistic. We know that eventually, our Betty Beastie will be able to take us out on new and exciting adventures. Here's to better luck tomorrow! 🤞
Update: We learned our RV was just fine, but what we apparently forgot was that a Diesel Allison Transmission must be in Neutral to start. All is good in the world
